Is your cholesterol too low for your body to function properly? If you are, then you might need to see your doctor about it. A lot of people may not realize this but with cholesterol too low in your system, you are susceptible to problems like suicidal tendencies, slower brain functions, a weak immune system and low sex drive, to name but a few. Suffering from low cholesterol can mean that a person has been trying to eliminate cholesterol from the body altogether due sometimes to the mistaken idea that all cholesterol is bad for you and you should not eat anything that has cholesterol in it.

The current trend of lowering cholesterol has resulted in some people having cholesterol too low for them to live normally or to live a healthy existence. They are of the mistaken notion that they should get rid of all cholesterol in their diet to become healthy. When health advocates say that you should lower your cholesterol intake, it means just that, lowering it. They never said to eliminate it altogether. Lowering your intake of foods with cholesterol, particularly those that are laden with good cholesterol, can result in a lot of problems, with the worst of this being cancer.

When it comes to your cholesterol levels going below what is normal, you should also know that dieting is not the only culprit behind such a problem. This can also stem from the use of certain medications paired with a low cholesterol diet and even natural causes. The ideal thing for a person with low cholesterol to do, whether this was caused by dieting or other factors, is to try to find a way to reverse this low cholesterol problems and to return their cholesterol levels to normal.

For you to raise your cholesterol levels with the help of your diet, you will need to ask your doctor for advice on what is best for you to eat and not to eat. It does not mean that just because you need to raise your cholesterol levels that you can eat anything with cholesterol in it to do this. You will need to choose what you eat for you to get good cholesterol into your system and not the bad cholesterol that blocks your arteries and can cause you heart problems and other similar ailments.

Some of the good sources of cholesterol for you to choose from are those that come from plant sources or those that come from oily fish. You can get good cholesterol from nuts, like walnuts and almonds, from vegetable oils like olive oil and coconut oil and from linseed oil as well. You should try to lower your carbohydrate intake however since this can change into bad cholesterol when it converts itself to saturated fat if it is not burned up with exercise. If you are to eat a lot of carbohydrates, you should exercise to burn these and not get these to turn into sugar which can then turn into bad cholesterol.
